JIC fittings, defined by the SAE J514 and MIL-DTL-18866 standards, are a type of flare fitting machined with a 37-degree flare seating surface.

JIC fitting system has three components that make a tubing assembly: fitting, flare nut, and sleeve. The tube end is flared to 74 degrees included angle and held in between the main body nose and the sleeve nut which is on top of them, thus resulting in a very effective leak-proof joint, full flow connection in process tubing. The JIC fitting uses its flared seating surface to seal, instead of an o-ring that could corrode or the old-tapered threads of NPTF fittings. This means that they can be re-used, and disconnected & reconnected repeatedly with little or no deformation and hold a high pressure seal. This is very useful in hydraulic applications where equipment is frequently being changed out or on testing equipment.

JIC Fitting Features:

  1. They are readily available
  2. Offer a large variety of sizes, shapes, combinations and materials
  3. Sizes are consistent with SAE fittings which makes them easily interchangeable and identifiable
  4. The absence of an O-ring makes them desirable in high temperature applications
