SAE J512 is a standard published by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) that pertains to automotive tube fittings. These fittings are commonly used in hydraulic systems and other fluid power applications in vehicles.

The SAE J512 standard specifies the dimensions, design, and performance requirements for flare type fittings, inverted flared type fittings, tapered sleeve, double 45 degree flares on tubing.

SAE 45° FLARE- SAE J512

SAE male has 45° flare which seals against 45° seats in females. Males can also seal against 45° flared tubing with nut

and sleeve. 7/16 – 20, 1/2 – 20, 3/4 – 16 & 7/8 – 14 are the same thread form as JIC 37° flare. Some fittings in these sizes have both JIC 37° & SAE 45° seats.

SAE 45º INVERTED FLARE – SAE J512

Tapered sleeve compression type fittings intended for general use with annealed copper alloy tubing shall be as specified. To assure satisfactory performance, spherical sleeve compression type fitting components when assembling connections in areas where both types are available.
