NPT stands for National Pipe Thread and originates from United States. It’s a family of technical standards for screw threads to connect pipes and fittings. It is considered to be the American alternative to the original BSP thread which is from Britain. NPT Threaded Fittings are a family of high pressure fittings used in connecting and creating pipe-work systems whereby they are welded into the system using circumferential socket welds.

There are two mainly used types of NPT thread.

NPTF – Dryseal American Standard Taper Pipe Thread

NPSM – American Standard Straight Pipe Thread for Mechanical Joints
