What is the NPSM thread

NPSM – American National Standard Pipe Straight Mechanical Joint thread. This type creates a non-pressure tight connection in applications that are not subject to internal pressures.

NPSM thread is formerly known as NPS, it has a straight thread, it often used in the Female pipe swivel as designed with 60°flank angle. The NPSM female pipe swivel seats on a 30°seat will mate with male thread end, NPSM is not typically used to transport water or gases without an O-ring.

What is the NPSF?

National Pipe Straight Fuel abbreviation is NPSF. NPSF American Standard straight pipe tap per ANSI B1.20.3. The NPSF thread is considered more economical to produce than tapered internal threads, but when assembled do not offer a guarantee of sealing since root and crest interference will not occur for all threads. NPSF threads are generally used with soft or ductile materials which will conform at assembly to the taper of the external threads. They can also be used in applications with thick brittle material as well. They are primarily intended for assembly with NPTF external threads. NPSF external threads and gages are not available.
